 Marijuana in Nepal has been illegal since 1960, but the country has a long history of their use. The Cannabis indicia plant grows wild in Nepal, and it was the open sale of Marijuana in Kathmandu in the 1960s that drew hippies to Nepal.
Despite this potential, the Nepal government decided to revoke all licenses to cultivate, buy and sell cannabis in 1973. This not only made its cultivation illegal, but also ended the era of economic fortunes.
